Discovery Centre

2012 – Sharjah, UAE

The Heart of Sharjah project is a 15-year historical preservation and restoration mega-project for the historical heart of the Emirate. The first settlers arrived here and the traditional homes of some of the most prominent families are still here. Shurooq, the Emirate of Sharjah Investment and Development Authority, commissioned Khalid Shafar to customize some of his signature objects for furnishing parts of the project’s Discovery Centre. Designed by MBLM, the Discovery Centre will allow visitors to get a real sense of place, understand the plans for the district and experience authentic hospitality. Therefore, the selected KHALID SHAFAR objects had to blend in with the design of the Discovery Centre and complement the furnishing mix chosen for the interiors.
THE PALM coffee table and LITTLE PALM stool were chosen to complete the sitting area while 6 ILLUSION DINE chairs where customized to create a cosy meeting area in the same space. ARABI table lamp was selected to illuminate a recessed arch in the original walls of the space.
