The Tale of T

2011 – Abu Dhabi, UAE

In its new location at the Saadiyat Cultural District, Abu Dhabi Art 2011 again invited selected designers to participate in its Design Studio. Khalid Shafar was one of those invited. The designers were each given a space of 15 square meters in which to showcase a kinetic installation that would engage the audience and make them interact with the work. Khalid chose to use his space to launch the KHALID SHAFAR 2012 new lighting object called ‘T’. It was presented in an installation display that fitted the artistic environment of the Abu Dhabi Art fair with its surrounding art galleries. Khalid’s stand told the tale of his new object, the T Chandelier, presenting the object aesthetically as a living Art. Many ‘T’ chandeliers were used in this installation hanging from the ceiling in different heights creating a magical ambience in the space for the visitor . In addition, an original old Talli embroidery making tool and a sample of the embroidery, were on display for the audience to understand the inspiration behind the object and to experience part of the country’s culture and heritage.
