I am a city boy! I was born and raised in a very interesting city that, in less than thirty years, has became one of the most attractive cities in the world – in all aspects; trade, commerce, lifestyle, tourism and shopping. We are talking about Dubai. A city of life, busy streets, traffic, high-rise buildings, cosmopolitan crowds and, at night, a city made of vibrant crisscrossing strips of light. It was Dubai at night that became the inspiration for Illusion; a dynamic stool with a lot of movement created by Danish rope weaving over an Ash timber frame. The woven lines create geometric shapes that reflect interesting shades and shadows as light strikes from different angles. Viewed from the top your eye searches for a start and end to the woven form. The illusion is created by the engineered tension between lines and frame. Illusion is multifunctional – serving as a seat and a magazines rack/storage compartment created by the ropes under the seat surface.
