I have lived all my life in the Jumeira area close to the beach. Here there are some of the oldest fishing villages in Dubai. I used to see fishing traps laid out on the beach to dry after long use in the sea and I always wondered how these worked – where did the fish enter and why were they trapped inside. Growing up I was fascinated by the design of the netting and how the shapes and forms seemed like piece of art. It was from these images and memories that I drew inspiration for THE TRAP. The smart concept of a fishing trap has been adapted to a unique shelving unit. When a fish goes into a simple fishing trap it can’t go out again. THE TRAP uses the same idea. A simple pull on the shelf drawer and you can access your possessions inside. It is a piece of art in itself and a functional object for display.
