KHALID SHAFAR showcased the evolved version of THE NOMAD 2.0 at Expo City Dubai during the 2024 Dhai Dubai Light Art Festival. This new iteration deepened the dialogue between art and design, innovatively reimagining 'The Nomad,' first unveiled in London in 2015. It used light not only to animate but also to structurally define the space, merging functional design with aesthetic expression.
THE NOMAD 2.0 bridged the realms of art and design by creating a space that balanced sensory contradictions of enclosure and openness. Utilising an array of coloured laser rays, it sculpted an outer shell that defined a dynamic social sphere, encapsulating visitors within a seemingly caged yet perceptibly open and airy environment. This design paradox underscored the brand's ethos of merging creativity, functionality, and practicality in tangible forms.
Light transcended its traditional role, becoming a structural element that shaped the experience and interaction within the space. It not only illuminated the installation but also enhanced the functional utility of the design, fostering social interactions and energising the communal atmosphere. The installation stood as a testament to the potential of design to solve problems and enhance human experiences, reflecting a sophisticated understanding of how art and design converge to influence space and human behaviour.
