Khalid Shafar always had a passion for art and design but the Emirati’s first career choice was marketing. As a business graduate of the American University in Dubai Khalid worked in marketing and communication for almost seven years. In 2005 Khalid completed a degree in Fine Arts in Interior Design and by the end of 2009 he had decided to leave marketing and follow his passion for design. Khalid has studied and specialised in Furniture & Objects design, first at the prestigious Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London, UK, then at the Centre for Fine Woodworking in Nelson, New Zealand. Over this time Khalid acquired the skills and techniques integral to bespoke furniture making and craftsmanship. He is currently based between New Zealand and Dubai.
Khalid’s approach to design encompasses his personal expression of form, movement, emotion, and in particular, ‘the tale’ of objects. He defines what he creates as contemporary and quirky interior design objects with stories to tell. His work is a free fusion of east and west, north and south, and innocent light heartedness, yet with a sleek international haute.

Among his achievements as an international designer he has been:

A guest designer and speaker at Abu Dhabi Art 2011 – Design Studio

A guest designer and speaker at Tasmeem Doha 2011- International Design Conference, Qatar.

A selected designer for S*uce Bench project in Dubai.

A guest designer and speaker at Abu Dhabi Art 2010 – Design Studio.
